How to keep warm on the road

As yet more snow is forecast, it’s never been more crucial for business travellers to keep warm – here’s how!
As temperatures continue to plummet and another snow dump is looking ever more likely, business travellers are increasingly vulnerable to the cold. So, whether you’re travelling by car, train or plane, here are the top toasty products on the market right now.
Hot tunes
If you want to listen to music on your headphones without exposing your ears to the Arctic, try the Headphone Beanie (The Travelling Souk; £34.94 including delivery; tel: 01865 821 835). With in-built headphones, these hats mean you never have to choose between your favourite playlist or radio station and keeping warm.
Cashmere luxury
Cashmere wool comes from the undercoats of goats bred at high altitudes, so it’s excellent for warmth – and not bad for a spot of luxury, too! Grab a scarf from Madeleine Thompson’s range (£208; Matches; tel: 0870 067 8838), or a luxurious wrap from The Travelwrap Company (£191; The Travelwrap Company; tel: 0844 800 1296).
Snuggle up
Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it’s a Snuggle – a sort of blanket-coat (£14.99; JML Direct; tel: 0871 221 2677). It keeps you super warm, with your hands free to work on your laptop while travelling. If you don’t have much space, try a Blankie – a ‘lap duvet’ no less – which are made from goose and down (£44; Hunky Dory Home; tel: 0191 645 4004).
Socks appeal
Your extremities are the first to feel the cold, so to keep your toes toasty, treat yourself to a pair of super soft, lightweight socks made from the coat of an alpaca (cute as a button and looks like a small llama). Perilla does everyday socks (£12.26 per pair), or leave room in your suitcase for its range of bedsocks (£18.39 per pair). Call 01886 853 615 to find out more.
Fab flasks
Don’t forget your trusty Thermos! Warming you up from the inside out, a Thermos full of something hot is the original and best (and one of the cheapest) ways to keep the shivers at bay. As well as flasks like the Stainless King 0.47L (£19.99; John Lewis; stores nationwide), the Everyday 450 travel mug (£3.99–4.99, Asda and Debenhams; stores nationwide) fits most car cup holders, making it ideal for chilly motorway journeys.
Glove story
You can now get gloves with built-in warmers, which are powered by USB (£13.47; Mobile Fun; tel: 0844 249 5060) and can plug into a laptop or PC. They gently defrost your fingers so you can type and get some work done on the road, even in the coldest conditions – meaning there are no excuses for not getting that presentation done in time!
