Spa review: InterContinental London Park Lane

InterContinental London Park Lane, Love Struck, Valentine's, Skyline Spa
The InterContinental Spa's VIP suite makes any treatment extra special

As part of its Love Struck February series, the InterContinental Park Lane is offering its Skyline Spa Valentine – a deliciously decadent chocolate experience – which is perfect if you want to give your business stay a twist. DialExpotel was invited along to sample its delights…

If you love chocolate so much you dream of being covered head to toe in it, the  InterContinental London Park Lane has the answer.

If you love chocolate so much you dream of being covered head to toe in it, the spa at the InterContinental London Park Lane has the answer.

Its Skyline Spa Valentine treatment starts in the ‘starlit’ Steam Temple, where you sit – steaming gently – opposite your amour, and apply three different types of mask to your face, torso and legs, respectively. Then, once you’ve both showered yourselves clean and robed up, you make your way to the private, deluxe VIP Double Spa Suite… where the fun really begins!

Once inside the suite, the full chocolatey goodness of the treatment becomes apparent as the scent of warm, melted choc wafts through the air, tantalising your nostrils while you’re prepared for the Chocolate Body Wrap with a hot stone foot ritual and a body brush.

A moisturising treatment made with real chocolate (yes, real chocolate, and no, you can’t eat it – I did ask) is applied by hand, before you’re wrapped up, cocooned in a duvet and left to relax while the skin-softening magic happens.

What does it feel like to be covered in hot chocolate? Two words spring to mind – weird and wonderful. I had to fight the urge to lick myself (it did smell so good), but it was definitely worth it for my silky-soft, lightly scented post-shower skin.

Afterwards, make your way up to the glorious seventh-floor Club InterContinental, which has some of the city’s most stunning skyline views.

Here, the two of you can share a bottle of premium champagne and the Chocolate Lovers’ Afternoon Tea – a choc-tastic tea that includes chocolate scones and four mini-chocolate cakes, served with a range of green, black or white teas (probably a good thing there was no chocolate tea!)… and the perfect way to finish the experience.

Verdict: Wearable chocolate? It’s the new black!
