Thistle joins ‘green hotel’ league

Newcastle's County Hotel by Thistle – combining comfort with energy efficiency
Thistle Hotels has joined the Carepar scheme, which rates UK hotels in a ‘green league’ based on carbon emissions and gives guests information on the carbon impact of their bookings.
Thistle has been working with Carepar as part of the group’s Corporate Social Responsibility policy. An initial £60,000 eco-investment includes fitting energy-efficient light bulbs throughout the group’s 33 hotels, installing motion sensors to switch off lights when not in use, and fitting an energy-saving kitchen at the Thistle City Barbican hotel.
Since September 2009, Carepar has been tracking the energy usage of the group’s hotels, to help Thistle improve energy efficiency and reduce carbon emissions. The data will be used to rank Thistle in the green hotel league, which will be published as more hotels join the Carepar scheme.
Joe Potter, Property Service Manager for Thistle Hotels, said: “We’re listening to guests and understand the concerns they have about their carbon footprint. Joining the Carepar scheme will help us to show guests the positive steps we’re taking to reduce carbon emissions and help us identify even more ways of saving energy.”
Joining Carepar is part of Thistle’s £100 million rebranding programme, which includes ongoing refurbishment.
