Strand Palace Hotel recreates its own ‘Mount Kilimanjaro’ for Sport Relief
London’s Strand Palace Hotel recreating its own ‘Mount Kilimanjaro’ as part of Sport Relief.
The ‘Strand’s Stairway to Kilimanjaro’ event will see staff climbing the hotel’s central staircase to the equivalent of 19340 feet – the height of the infamous mountain.
The art deco staircase is nine floors high and has 153 steps, meaning staff will need to walk the stairs 211 times to reach the ‘height’ of Africa’s highest peak, bringing the total number of steps to 32,283.
“We took our inspiration from last year’s Mount Kilimanjaro celebrity climb,” said general manager David MacRae.
“Hopefully we will raise a significant amount of money for Sport Relief and I hope guests and visitors to the hotel will pop by to cheer the staff on and help support the cause.”
