Hotel of the week: Strand Palace Hotel, London

Strand Palace Hotel, London, London hotels, central London hotels

With the bustling West End as a backdrop, Charing Cross minutes away, as well as Covent Garden tube for access into the heart of the city and financial districts, business is at the core of the Strand Palace Hotel’s location.

The hotel has over 100 years of history, but in recent years the property has benefited from a multi-million pound refurbishment to bedrooms, restaurants and conference and events space to ensure it keeps up with the needs of both business and leisure travellers.

Inside, the hotel has a contemporary feel, with the main lobby doubling up as a business area to catch up on emails and charge your phone. In total, there are 786 rooms at the Strand Palace Hotel, and those staying in the Club rooms also enjoy complimentary access to the nearby Virgin Active Gym.  Club rooms also feature plasma TVs with satellite, Wi-Fi access and an in-room safe. A dedicated express checkout is also available – perfect for busy business travellers.

There are plenty of places for informal meetings, such as the cosy Lounge Bar, which is a great place to catch up over a latte or afternoon tea, thanks to cosy sofas and private booths upholstered in chocolate brown leather. Alternatively, for a business lunch, Johnston’s Brasserie, with its Mediterranean-influenced menu, is always a popular choice.

For larger gatherings, the Strand Palace Hotel has a dedicated conference and events floor reached via an original Art Deco staircase, which can add real drama to any event. The conference facilities are centred off a reception area, ideal for pre-event networking or as a breakout space.

The multi-purpose conference and events space comprises eight well-equipped venues, all of which enjoy air conditioning, Wi-Fi and AV and can host up to 200 delegates. Alternatively, the bespoke boardroom is situated on the second floor and can seat up to 12 delegates; or the Westminster Suite can host 40 delegates for private dining, or up to 50 in the Mask Bar.
