Hotel of the week: Green House Hotel, Bournemouth

If you’re looking for a boutique hotel with a heart in the centre of Bournemouth, just two hours from London, then let us introduce you to the Green House.

The Green House opened last April to rave reviews and by November, it had snapped up the ‘Small Hotel of the Year’ award at the Bournemouth Tourism Awards. Judges were instantly impressed by the hotel’s ‘comprehensive commitment to excellence, genuine care for the environment and high standards of sustainability. ‘ The hotel’s remarkable green endeavours set a standard of excellence throughout the hotel industry and the Green House was specially commended in the for “Excellent Social Responsibility” in the national HRS Hotel Excellence Awards 2011 for its clear vision to building an environmentally responsible business brand.

The Green House offers 32 stunning guest rooms, all beautifully furnished with bespoke, hand crafted furniture made in the UK using natural and sustainable materials.  Rooms fall into four categories - small double, double, large double and master double. The latter comes bursting with character and a showstopping reclaimed Victorian roll top bath and super king bed (6ft). All rooms have 32” LED flat screen TV, Bose sound dock, luxurious goose down duvets and crisp white organic bed linen.  The bathrooms boast natural stone basins, walk-in showers, luxury toiletries, bathrobes and slippers. So whatever your budget, you’re in for a treat.

Business facilities are no less important than sustainability to the Green House hotel. A stunning conference room caters for theatre style events for up to 100 delegates, receptions for up to 120 or cabaret style up to 60. There is a private external entrance and plenty of natural light. The hotel’s environmental ethos is evident here too: the private events room floor is FSC oak, the walls are covered with locally produced wall paper and petro-chemical free paints and the conference chairs are made from re-cycled Playstation games consoles. The room also has lift access, full audio-visual equipment and an induction loop system.

There are also meeting rooms catering for boardroom layouts of up to 24 or theatre style layouts for 40 and 30 delegates respectively.  They are separated by a small central room which can be used as a break-out area or for access between rooms if you require two separate spaces.

If you’re dining at the Green House, you’re in for a treat. Yet another award-winning aspect of the Green House hotel, the restaurant scooped a Toptable award in May this year and Gordon Jones, the award-winning chef, comes with two AA rosettes and his own TV series.

All food is fresh, seasonal, local and where available organic. The restaurant offers a critically acclaimed six course-tasting menu. A lighter Comfort Food menu is available throughout the day in the bar and garden.

For a conference with a difference, the Green House is the place to be.
