Deputy Prime Minister lauds Expotel partners for Social Mobility schemes
Hilton, Barcelo and Jurys Inn have been lauded by Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg for their social mobility schemes.
The three groups were named best companies in the UK for accepting young employees from all backgrounds and for social mobility schemes in general.
The recognition comes as Clegg launched his Business Compact scheme as part of his Deputy Prime Minister’s Social Mobility Strategy to make access to employment experience and opportunities more equal.
All three hotel groups were named signatories to the Business Compact, while more than 100 companies have signed up to the new rules launched in April 2011. All have agreed to recruit more fairly while supporting local communities.
Hilton already have extensive social mobility projects in place ahead of the Business Compact scheme. All Hilton Worldwide hotels offer placements to students of local schools and colleges via a Springboard UK scheme and a central Chef Apprenticeship Academy and ‘Galvin’s Chance’, a programme for underprivileged young people.
Ben Bengougam, Vice President, HR, Europe for Hilton Worldwide attended the signatory reception and said:
“Hilton Worldwide is a global business and are committed to ensuring that our workforce reflects the diversity of the communities we operate in. We do this by supporting local communities and schools; providing training and jobs for young people; and ensuring our recruitment process is fair and transparent.”
Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg says:
“I’d like to thank Hilton Worldwide for signing up for the Business Compact. Today’s success makes me event more ambitious. This great news is just the beginning – I will do everything I can to bring even more business on board."
