Olympics organising committe release 120,000 hotel rooms

Thousands of hotels rooms have been released by the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games, opening up a range of choices for Olympic event planners.
Around 120,000 rooms no longer needed by Olympics officials, media and other organisers have been put on sale to the public.
As part of the bid to stage the London 2012 games back in 2005, some 600,000 rooms were secured by LOCOG in budget to five-star properties across the country.
In accordance with these agreements, LOCOG agreed to return any unwanted rooms back to the hotels so they could sell them in time for summer 2012.
The release will provide a welcome boost to the nation's tourism industry.
LOCOG's CEO, Paul Deighton says:
"We always promised that we would not hold on to the hotel rooms we didn't need but would return them to individual hotels at the beginning of 2012.
We are now doing this and I hope this enables the hotels to continue their planning for this summer as we all work together to stage a spectacular games."
This news will be especially welcome to procurement managers trying to secure corporate hospitality packages near Olympic sites across the country.
