Ditch the red carpet – QHotels is going green!

David Kanarans, General Manager of Queens Hotel, Leeds
QHotels has reduced its year-on-year energy consumption by 61 per cent – smashing its target of 30 per cent.
Michael Purtill, Managing Director of the 21-strong group, said he was “delighted” that QHotels had beaten its target – but stressed there was more that could be done.
“We recently introduced a number of energy-saving initiatives that have saved 2,747 tonnes of CO2, and we’re looking to reduce this even further,” he added.
And to celebrate the achievement, the Queens Hotel in Leeds replaced the red carpet leading to its entrance with green turf!
The group is also encouraging its suppliers to take a green approach to business.
Last year, Andrew Tait, QHotels’ Director of Procurement, put together a checklist for existing and prospective suppliers to make sure the environmental charter was carried out in all areas of the business; while Fair Trade tea, and sustainable coffee and hot chocolate, are now used in hotel bedrooms.
All QHotels are encouraged to carry locally supplied food.
