Restaurant review: 1610 Steak Restaurant at Best Western Rogerthorpe Manor Hotel

Best Western hotel, Best Western restaurant, steak restaurant, good steak, good steak in Yorkshire

For a fine-dining experience in stunning surroundings – and an exceptionally good steak – try the 1610 Steak Restaurant at Best Western Rogerthorpe Manor Hotel

To celebrate its 400th anniversary, Rogerthorpe Manor Hotel has launched its new restaurant, 1610 Steak Restaurant – named to commemorate the date that the Jacobean manor house was built.

Like the rest of this fabulous hotel, 1610 effortlessly combines the historic with the contemporary

Set amid the olde worlde splendour of the mullion-windowed, oak-panelled dining room, 1610 is intimate and relaxed. Like the rest of this fabulous hotel, it effortlessly combines the historic with the contemporary.

There is a choice of three starters: the Chef's seasonal rustic soup, the 1610 House salad and a selection of Hors d'oeuvres.

The Hors d'oeuvres include tender smoked salmon, delicious rollmop herrings and a tempting peppered mackerel, but the pick was the delicately prepared chilli prawns.

The main course steak menu caters for all preferences, an 8oz sirloin or rump and, for the bigger appetite, a 16oz Hearty T-bone steak. All cooked the way you like it. The pepper sauce was a delight.

Other options include a Barnsley chop (lamb) and the Pan-fried supreme of chicken, which was succulent and moist.

The meat is sourced locally and all the red meat is hung for a minimum of 28 days.

If there's room left for a dessert, the Bread and butter pudding is tempting, but the rhubarb crumble – rhubarb is a locally grown delicacy – has to be the choice, tart and fresh from the forcing sheds and served with custard and cream. Wondrous.
